Puffy vs. Nectar Mattress Comparison

In this review, we compare the entry-level mattress options from Puffy and Nectar. Puffy and Nectar are both bed-in-a-box companies with comparable mattresses. If you’re having trouble making a decision on which mattress is best for you, this comparison will help you finalize your choice.

  • Price

The Puffy and Nectar mattresses are nearly comparable in pricing terms. A queen-sized Puffy mattress is $1150, while the Nectar comes in at $817. If the price is a major factor, these mattresses are well reviewed so choosing by price alone is fine and with constant sales on both mattresses either is a good buy.

  • Feel

The puffy mattress is a four-layer mattress compared to Nectar’s three. Each mattress offers a high-quality memory foam feel. However, the puffy has consistently been the most comfortable out of the two mattresses giving sleeper’s a better night’s sleep overall.

  • Construction

The Puffy Mattress is an 11-inch tall mattress made up of differing foam layers and comes with the Puffy Cloud Cover which is removable and stain-resistant. The Nectar mattress is an 11-inch mattress with different foam layers and comes with a cover, the only difference is that the Nectar cover has gel-memory foam quilted into it.

In terms of construction, the mattresses are pretty similar but the Nectar does offer the gel-foam insulation to its cover making it a slightly better constructed.

  • Firmness

Both the Puffy and Nectar beds are of average mid-level firmness. However, if you are of an above-average weight the Puffy Mattress will seem more firm due to sinking down to the base support layer. With this in mind if you are looking for a medium level firm mattress the Nectar is the best choice for sleepers of all weights.

  • Overall Favorite

The Puffy Mattress may offer a better feel but our overall favorite was the Nectar. When it comes to construction, firmness, and value the Nectar is a better offering. The Puffy may win in other categories and is very close in score to the Nectar.

A Closer Look at the Puffy

puffy mattress insides

Before you decide on either the Nectar or the Puffy mattress we need to take an in-depth look at what the Puffy mattress means for your best sleep.

Materials

The Puffy mattress is an 11-inch thick foam bed-in-a-box. It has four separate foam layers. The uppermost layer is a 1.5-inch thick Cooling Cloud foam layer. The Cooling Cloud foam is made of gel-infused visco polyurethane foam manufactured in an environmentally friendly VPF or variable pressure foaming process. This layer provides breathability and body contouring.

Underneath the Cooling Cloud top layer is a 1.5 inch Plush Dual Cloud layer. This foam layer was added to improve the mattress’s ability to contour the body and reduce pressure on the back. What you will notice from your sleep is that this layer maximizes body recovery after sleep.

Above the base layer is a two-inch-thick Climate Comfort layer. This layer was added to the mattress to neutralize temperature as well as resist contraction and expansion during sleep because of temperature changes.

The bottom-most layer of the mattress is called the Firm Core Support layer. This base layer is there to add a firm, supportive, durable, and adaptive base that is stable on all surfaces.

All of the foam layers in a Puffy mattress were manufactured in a CertiPUR-US certified manner. The CertiPUR-US certification means that these materials are manufactured in an eco-friendly manner. Additionally, every part of a Puffy mattress is made, assembled, and designed in the USA.

The Puffy also comes with a Puffy cover that is stain resistant and removable for washing.

A Closer Look at the Nectar

Nectar

When you’re trying to decide between the Puffy and the Nectar it is important to look at everything that a Nectar brings to your best night’s sleep.

Materials

The Nectar mattress is an 11-inch bed-in-a-box. It has three layers of foam but some consider the mattress cover, which has a layer of gel foam quilted into it the fourth layer. The Uppermost layer of the Nectar mattress is a 3-inch gel memory foam that allows for sinkage, contouring, and a cooler sleep. It also distributes weight evenly which is good for larger statured sleepers.

Underneath the gel memory foam is a transitional layer of 1.75-inch high-density memory foam. This layer was made to enhance the body-hugging feel of the mattress while adding additional support to stop your body from sagging in too much.

On the bottom of the mattress is 5.25-inches of high-density polyfoam. Like the transitional layer, this base layer allows for a body contouring feel without compromising the level of support.

All of the foams used in a Nectar mattress were created to meet CertiPUR-US standards, which measure content, durability, and emissions.

making memory foam

Feel and Firmness

The Nectar mattress is a medium level feel, it offers quality support for both average and larger sleepers. The mattress offers a supportive body contouring sleep that will provide a traditional memory foam feel.

When you’re on a Nectar mattress you may notice that it is hard to move around easily. However, most people won’t get stuck on the mattress because of the support from the transitional layer.

back sleeper

Sleeping Positions

If you’re a stomach sleeper the Nectar mattress is not the mattress for you as it is too soft to give the hip support needed to provide a comfortable sleep. For back sleepers, the memory foam conforms to the body giving excellent lumbar support. Side sleepers will notice some initial pressure but after a while, the pressure is relieved as the mattress heats up.

plus sized person in beds

Heavier Sleepers

Larger stature sleepers will notice that the Nectar mattress has a medium level firmness similar to that felt by average weight sleepers. When a heavier person sleeps on a Nectar on their backs, this mattress does a good job of providing the support they need.

Side sleepers will feel some pressure on the shoulders and hips while stomach sleepers will need to try a different mattress because this mattress allows the hips to bow in too much.

Warranty

The Nectar mattress comes with a 365-night trial period and a limited lifetime warranty. The reason this warranty is limited is that while during the first 10 years, as long as the mattress has been used correctly, they will replace it at no charge. In years 11 and up the mattress will only be repaired (and sometimes replaced) if you pay a $50 transportation fee each way.

Pros and Cons

Pros:

365-night trial

Same firmness for all body types

Value priced

Cons:

Limited lifetime warranty

Bad for large stature stomach sleepers
